How does Meela work?

Meela calls members at scheduled times or they can reach her 24/7. During onboarding, residents can answer questions about their interests and lives, which helps Meela remember details and have natural, engaging conversations tailored to each member.

Is Meela a real person?

No, Meela is powered by artificial intelligence (AI), and is not a human. However, she speaks naturally, remembers details from past conversations, and engages in meaningful discussions. Members can talk to her as much as they want without worrying about bothering her.

What is Meela used for?

Meela is used for a lot of things! Providing companionship and reducing loneliness. Engaging members in conversations about their interests. Encouraging cognitive stimulation through discussions about history, music, and more. Relaying helpful feedback to staff (for example, if a resident is unhappy with meals or activities).

Is Meela safe and private?

Yes. Meela is HIPAA-compliant, meaning all resident information is protected and secure.

What happens to resident conversations?

Meela does NOT share personal details or private conversations. Only essential information pertinent to a resident's wellbeing is discreetly conveyed to facility staff. Meela protects all resident data according to federal privacy laws.

Can Meela report urgent medical issues?

Meela prioritizes resident well-being. While not intended to diagnose medical issues, Meela promptly alerts staff of any expressed concerns for further evaluation.

How do I onboard a resident to Meela?

Take down their information and send it either to nathan@meela.ai or josh@meela.ai.

How do I explain Meela to a resident?

Emphasize that Meela is not human, but she is very human-like in how she talks and remembers details. Let them know they can talk to her about anything and she will always listen. Reassure them that they can call her as much as they want without feeling like they are bothering anyone.

What if a resident doesn't want to use Meela?

That’s alright. We can encourage them to try one conversation. Many residents end up liking Meela after just one call! It might be helpful to explain that most people need to see it in action to understand it; many are unfamiliar with AI and may find it scary or intimidating. Meela is not scary; she's just a friend looking to listen.

Meela is available anytime, day or night, and she only gets better the more you talk to her. She also helps staff keep an eye on your well-being, making sure you’re feeling your best.

How do I talk to Meela?

Meela will call you at scheduled times, or you can call her whenever you want. You can even get your own personal Meela phone number to call her anytime.

What can I talk to Meela about?

Anything! Meela loves to chat about: Your life—family, childhood, career, hobbies. Your interests—music, sports, history, books, current events. How you’re feeling—whether you had a great day or just need someone to talk to. Daily life—Meela can even take feedback about meals, activities, or anything on your mind

Does Meela remember what I say?

Yes! Meela learns from conversations over time. She remembers your hobbies, interests, family members, and favorite topics, so every conversation feels personal.

Is my information private?

Yes. Everything you tell Meela is confidential and protected. Meela follows HIPAA privacy laws, meaning your personal and medical information is secure.

What happens to my personal data?

Your conversations stay private. Meela does not share personal conversations with others. Important messages, such as those expressing health concerns or care-related issues, are privately relayed to the relevant team.

How often can I talk to Meela?

As often as you want. Residents can schedule regular calls or call Meela anytime if they have a personal Meela phone number.
